Born on a cold January afternoon in the state of Virginia, Evangeline "Evie" Greenhart was the fourth and final child of Jack and Heidi Greenhart, the only little girl amongst her rambunctious brood of older male siblings. She spent the first several years of her life as happily and peacefully as one could ever hope for, thanks largely to her an uneventful yet seemingly idyllic upbringing in the tiny rural town of Louisa, Virginia. The only real conflict ever thrown Evie's way tended to be nothing more than the occasional brotherly roughhousing or juvenile taunts issued carelessly from her neighborhood playmates. That was until her storybook family was ripped apart from the inside out when Heidi tearfully confessed to having an extramarital affair surrounding the time of Evie's birth, revealing that the Greenhart family's beloved daughter was in fact fathered by another man. Shortly after the distraught little family celebrated Evie's sixth birthday, Jack sat down with his wide-eyed and attentive daughter for what would forever be remembered as the single most difficult conversation he'd ever had, attempting to explain to her in simple yet understandable terms why her and her big brothers would be leaving mommy and their home in Louisa to go live in a new house in a new town in England. Heidi and Jack's marriage quickly disintegrated once the truth became known, and following a vicious custody battle which was ultimately settled in Jack's favor, Evie and her brothers were took their first airplane ride across the vast ocean to settle down once again, distraught yet determined, in a small community called Lelant. Jack managed to secure himself a job as a music teacher while Evie and her brothers did their best to integrate themselves into their new surroundings.None of the Greenhart children have seen their mother since their departure, and if Jack has he hasn't said a single word about it. Last any of them had heard, Heidi was happily married with two little girls who have their big sister's eyes. As far as Evie is concerned, Jack Greenhart is her true father, DNA tests be damned. To this day, Evie still struggles to fully understand and accept the lasting effects that her mother's infidelity have had not just on her, but the rest of her family as well.
Although there's quite a lot of potential for Evangeline to criticize the ways in which her childhood years unfolded, you'll rarely ever hear any vitriolic rants coming from her on the matter. While other children would mock her for her misplaced accent, quiet disposition, tomboy behavior, and absentee mother, it was during these first years in Lelant in which Evie began to develop a truly boundless appreciation and knack for making music. Much to the delight of her family and teachers, Evangeline exhibited significant musical talent from very early on, excelling dutifully at both the guitar and piano, practicing diligently on her beloved drum set, and occasionally dabbling in other less conventional instruments such as handbells, harp, and eventually the mandolin. Not to mention, she could sing. Evie's hauntingly sad voice seemed perfectly suited to the surprisingly mature and insightful lyrics and poetry she'd taken to writing in secret, and to this day her family and friends and fans alike will often insist that such music and lyrics couldn't possibly come from such a mild-mannered, soft-spoken young girl. There was never any doubt that Evie could make quite a name for herself and especially her musical aptitude if that was what she wanted to do with her life.
Though it's been only five years since the release of Evie's very first EP, My Manic & I, she can't help but admit that it's felt like nothing short of several lifetimes. Yet, oddly enough, she's often convinced that she'll never quite be able to shake the feeling that the tiny blonde six year old she once was and the accomplished young woman she is now are almost identical in nature. Certainly they've got enough similarities left that the idea of fifteen years having passed by already is too absurd to be true. However, regardless of the time that has already passed on by, Evie knows one thing with absolutely unshakeable conviction: she still loves music in a way that's both thrilling and terrifying. And as long as she's got a say in the matter, that won't ever change.
